For the last few years I have been offering therapy through a secure, HIPAA compliant video service (tele-therapy). The importance of the use of video sessions have become even more important after the recent outbreak of COVID-19 where meeting face-to-face poses more risks than benefits. However, there are several other advantages that I see with tele-therapy.
Why people choose tele-therapy:
- Virtual sessions and face-to-face sessions show the same amount of effectiveness. Some people may think that meeting face-to-face creates a more effective therapy experience, however, that doesn't seem to be supported by research. If I am offering you a service, I want to assure you that it will not be compromised by the mode of delivery.
- Virtual sessions are significantly more convenient than coming to a physical office. Whether it is meeting in the comfort of your own home or on a lunch break at work, tele-therapy cuts down on travel time and can allow you to work your session into your schedule more easily. This is especially important if you are further from my office. We could be a few hours away physically, however, meet without the inconvenience of travel.
- We like to share when we are comfortable and feel safe. While I like to think that my office is a comfortable and safe environment, it's hard to argue that your home may be even more comfortable and safe feeling for you. I have found that at times clients make more progress when they are able to have their sessions in a familiar environment.
- Virtual sessions also allow me to be able to meet your pets (If you choose!) You are also welcomed to meet my pups: Fred and Edith!
